January & February 2014 Career Events

Spring has arrived which means there are lots of events to prepare for! Each event is unique and requires some preparation. This semester we have a variety of events that include a wide range of majors, law school and grad school prep!
Listed below are the events and times, if you have any questions about the event or location, feel free to visit the Career Services website or call at 512-245-2645.

Tips for Success!
-Bring revised copies of your resume and business cards if you have them to employer information sessions.
-Come early, stay late! We suggest arriving 5-10 minutes early so you can get a good seat and even introduce yourself to the speaker.  When you stay late you can be the last impression the presenter has in their head which can be to your advantage!
-Brainstorm questions you want to ask at these events to either the presenter or employer.  There is nothing worse than forgetting what you planned all week to ask!
-Start attending events before your senior year to be prepared for life after graduation.
-Have fun and be yourself!

Next, update your resume (or create one) and have a second pair of eyes look at your resume before you hand it over to employers. Submit it to Career Service's 48-hour resume critique or bring it by your Career Advisor's office hours.

Then, research the employers that will be at the Job Fairs. Find out who interests you and consider the companies objectives. What can you talk to them about when you meet, and what interests you about their mission? Think about what you want your goal for attending the Job Fair is. Are you looking for a full-time position? Internship? Or just there to get the experience of what a Job Fair environment is like.

Later, update your wardrobe with a professional look that you can wear to each Job Fair. The Career Services staff can help both men and women make their job fair wardrobe decisions. Additionally, read up on professional and appropriate body language to give yourself a better opportunity to make a lasting impression.

Continually, create a LinkedIn profile so that you can connect with employers quicker post Job Fair. If you already have a profile set up, then double check it and make some updates. On this same note, check and clean up all of your social media accounts. What impression does your online profile give?

Taking one or more of these steps will boost your confidence and get you Bobcat-ready for Career Service's Spring 2014 Job Fairs: an opportunity you shouldn't miss!
