Texas
State Career Services provides compassionate, comprehensive career assistance,
incorporating leading practices to guide students and alumni through all stages
of their career development.
Any
Texas State student engaged in their own career exploration is invited to
Career Services, on the 5th floor of LBJ Student Center (245-2645).
We
strive to ease the difficulty that can accompany the career decisions of
students and alumni. After registering
with Jobs4Cats, the department’s online career information system, clients are
encouraged to explore their career potential through one-on-one counseling, interests
and skills assessment and interpretation, and a resource library of career books,
brochures, and magazines.
Individual
career counseling and planning assistance is available to students for
selection of a major and the establishment of career goals. Career assessment tests and web-based
guidance programs are also available for use in this process. Assistance and information is also provided
to students pursuing graduate and professional school goals.
As
career direction sharpens, the department helps students to “test-drive” their
chosen occupations through informational interviewing, job shadowing, internships,
and other opportunities for career experience.
Internship programs are available to refine career
goals, gain practical experience, and expand students’ views of the world. Job Shadowing also provides this opportunity
for students, as they visit organizations and gain firsthand knowledge about
different career fields.
Career
Services also provides preparation for full-time employment, including resume
and cover letter critiques, practice interviews, job fairs, and on-campus
recruiting.
Whether
a client pursues a job or a post-graduate program, Career Services helps to
maximize search strategies, improve resumes, cover letters, and admission
essays, and provide practice interviewing. Finally, the department
coordinates a wide range of workshops, publications, and job fairs, all geared
toward helping students find a safe and satisfying place in the professional
world.
So, whatever help you need in
finding and pursuing your own career passions, please contact us. We are on the fifth floor of LBJ Student
Center (512-245-2645, www.careerservices.txstate.edu)
. Call for an appointment now—career
counselors are standing by.
